As Commissioner, Dr. Watson led the development and implementation of Kansans Can, a statewide vision that redefined success in education beyond test scores to include postsecondary readiness, civic engagement, and workforce success. His leadership shaped accountability, system redesign, and cross-sector collaboration across Kansas, influencing policy and practice well beyond state borders. Throughout his career, Dr. Watson has been recognized for his ability to lead complex systems through change while maintaining clarity of purpose and public trust. A former Kansas Superintendent of the Year, he has also spent decades preparing future leaders as a professor and leadership academy designer at Kansas State University and other institutions.
